Franceska Mann was a Polish-Jewish ballet dancer who was born on March 4, 1917, in Poland. She was a talented dancer and performed with renowned ballet companies in Europe before World War II.
During the Holocaust, Franceska Mann was detained at the Auschwitz concentration camp, where she was forced to perform in front of Nazi officers. In October 1943, when she was selected to strip naked before being sent to the gas chambers, Mann seized a gun from one of the officers and shot him dead before being killed by another soldier.
